Ashley Porter is the Williamson County Bureau Reporter for News 8 Austin, Austin's first and only 24-hour, 7-day-a-week local news channel. She previously worked as a state government reporter for six television stations in Mississippi, writer at WHDH–TV/WLVI-TV, reporter at WERS 88.9 FM, and photographer/editor at WXEL-TV.

Ashley has won two National Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for Kick to the Finish, following one runner's journey through the Boston Marathon, and Striving for Safety, an in-depth story about a deadly construction accident in Boston. Ashley is also a two-time winner of the New England Associated Press award for Investigative Reporting.

Her investigation, Hacked from the Handbook, exposed what attorneys call "a blow to academic freedom," and forced college administrators to restore the student rights they secretly removed.

Ashley grew up in South Florida. She left the warm beaches and braved snowy Nor'easters to study broadcast journalism at Emerson College. She was selected as a multimedia fellow at The Poynter Institute.
