How to react when your car heads for water

Caution tape surrounds a cracked and broken section of the wall along Bayshore Boulevard. It’s the result of a car that sped down South Boulevard on May 11 and crossed all lanes of traffic on Bayshore before plowing into the Bay.

The car was driven by a USF student, 19-year-old Michael Agana. At last check, he was in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.

The scene is a powerful reminder that it’s important to know what to do if a car accidentally drives into water. First, says Bay to Bay Hardware & Pool Manager Mike Pisarski, it’s beneficial to carry a center punch in your car.
